The University “B. P. Hasdeu” has three faculties: Faculty of Philology and History, Faculty of Law and Public Administration and the Faculty of Economy, Computer Science and Mathematics, and trains professionals in the following fields: Romanian Philology, English Philology, French Philology, History, Pedagogy, Law, Public Administration, Business and Administration, Finance and Banking, Accounting, Tourism, Engineering and naval transport management, Computer Science and Mathematics.
The teaching staff consists of 106 teachers with scientific and didactic titles, and carries on the activity at the following departments: Department of History and Social Sciences, Romanian Philology Department, English Philology Department, French Philology Department, Department of Law, Department of Public Administration, Department of Finance and Accounting Evidence, Department of Economy and Management of Affairs and Services, Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Department of Applied Sciences, Department of Pedagogy and Psychology.
Although it has a short history, the University “B. P. Hasdeu” has registered very good results both in the domain of scientific research and in the involvement of teaching staff in the organization of different extra curricular activities, programs and projects which has had the purpose to develop the educational domain in the southern region of the country.
The university has two spacious buildings as a part of its campus, 3 student residence buildings, a modern library with 3 reading rooms, 4 multimedia rooms which offer the possibility to students and teaching staff to explore the new informational technology and to have access to the Internet.
The services and centers from the university have an important role in improving the educational process: the French Resource Center, English Resource Center, the ONU center for documentation and information, Cahul Pro-Europe Center, Juridical Clinic etc. These centers provide consulting concerning bibliographical and methodological supplies and the promotion of the European values etc.
Currently, over 2146 students study at the University “B. P. Hasdeu”, both on scholarship and on tax. Many students have received diplomas and certificates at different competitions, and this demonstrates the intellectual potential of this institution.
In the context of higher education modernization, the State University “B. P. Hasdeu” does its best to implement in practice the stipulations of Bologna Process. In this sense, the University has received a number of European grants for the institutional development, enhancing the quality of education and research, etc. During the period of 2001-2003, the State University "B.P. Hasdeu" implemented the European project “the Modernization of the Cahul State University Administration” which had the purpose to create an informative system of the University in partnership with the Universite de Nice-Sophia Antipons –Nice, France; Degli Studi Di Geneva University- Geneva, Italy; Glasgow Caledonian University- Glasgow, Great Britain, and Moldova State University- Chisinau, Moldova.
At present, the University “B.P. Hasdeu” is involved in the implementation of the project “Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine (lot 6)”, which provides scholarships of academic mobility to undergraduates, master students, doctoral students, post-doctoral studies and academic staff. Within this project, until now 25 persons obtained scholarships of academic mobility including 11 undergraduates, 3 master students, 4 PhD students and 7 academic staff.

Another project, in which the University “B.P. Hasdeu” is involved, is the European project “Master Studies in European Integration and Neighborhood Policies - MEINEPO” (within the TEMPUS program, the 3rd stage), and its aim is to create master studies in Neighborhood Policies of EU at this university, at the Academy of Economic Studies from Moldova and at the State University “Aleco Russo” from Bălţi, beginning the academic year 2009-2010.
Due to active participation at the round 2008 of the TEMPUS program, 4th phase, the university "B.P. Hasdeu" takes part, since the 1st of January 2009, as a member of the consortium and direct beneficiary in three European projects, and namely:
- JEP project "MOdernisation et DEveloppement des Cours Professionnalisés (MODEP). Its objective is to develop the curriculum of licensed studies (L3) and master studies (M1 and M2) in the domain of management of enterprises and public administration, adapted to the professional needs in the universities from Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine and Morocco (applicant: University of Auvergne Clermont 1, France).
- JEP project "Western-Eastern Teacher Education Network”, aims to create a network of universities in the EU and the countries of Eastern Europe in order to extend the European academic experience regarding the new teaching methodology (applicant: Technological University of Kaunas, Lithuania).
- JEP project "Création de 4 Ecoles Hôtelières Supérieures d'Application (ESHA)", aims to create a mechanism for professional training in the domain of hotel services and restaurants in Russia, Moldova and Kazakhstan (Applicant: Institute of services and design (AU1)).
An important role in the development of Cahul State University “B.P. Hasdeu” is the relationships of close co-operation with a number of institutions of higher education from the country and abroad. Presently, our university has concluded agreements of cooperation and partnership with 8 universities from the Republic of Moldova, 6 universities from Romania, 3 universities from Ukraine and 2 higher education institutions from France (University Center Jean-Francois Champollion and the University of Auvergne Clermont 1)

On the whole, the indicators and the socio-economic and academic characteristics of the State University “B. P. Hasdeu” place this institution in the line of the most dynamic institutions from the country that demonstrates responsibility in the implementation of European educational standards and promptness in the relationships of collaboration with other higher institutions from Europe and especially in the realization of the Joint European Projects.
