Faculty of Philology and History

The Faculty of Philology and History is a structural subdivision of the State University “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu” from Cahul. It functions according to: the Education Law, the Statute of the State University “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu”, and the Faculty Regulations. The main purpose of the Faculty is to train specialists, to develop teacher training, to promote scientific research into different related domains and to implement the results.

The Faculty of Philology and History was founded in 2002. Since then, the Faculty has shown that it is a viable and useful subdivision in the southern part of the country. The care for written or spoken words has become a genuine cult figure.

The students’ professional training is focused on intensive studies, rich lectures, extensive reading and participation in many cultural activities. The Faculty of Philology and History is an important component of the Cahul State University, both in terms of the number of teachers and the specializations that it provides for full and part time Bachelor’s and Master’s studies. The studies are financed both from the state budget and by the fees paid according to the contracts. The Faculty is in perpetual renewal, and deals with the problems of the world in general and society in particular. There is a scientific and literary circle for students called “Andrei Ciurunga”. It was inaugurated on December 12, 2009 in the Faculty, and aims to promote young talent, both from this faculty and from throughout the university. This faculty has equipped study halls, a specialized library, and well trained teachers: Full and Associate professors, Senior Lecturers, and University Lecturers. The faculty has collaborative relationships with various university centers from Moldova and abroad. The studies at the faculty open possibilities for students to study at well-known university centers from different countries. The Faculty of Philology and History provides opportunities to train specialists in other areas as well. At the end of the academic study, a higher education specialist must be able to perform training activity and scientific research. The qualification obtained enables graduates to work in schools of different types - general education schools, high schools, colleges, institutions of higher education. They can be teachers of Romanian language and literature, teachers of world literature, teachers of history, teachers of French or English language, teachers in primary schools, methodists, education system managers, psychologists, editors, translators, proofreaders, researchers etc.

Diplomas allow the holders to pursue postgraduate studies: MA, PhD.
